Privacy Policy
The short version
WattPicks is a static content site. We do not ask you to create an account, we do not have a newsletter signup, and we do not sell personal data. The only data we process is what is needed to serve the pages, understand which comparisons are useful, and attribute affiliate referrals.
What we collect
- Server logs. Our web server records standard request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — for security and operational purposes. These are retained for a short period and used to detect abuse.
- Aggregate analytics. If you accept optional cookies, we use analytics to understand which pages and comparisons are read. This is aggregate measurement of page usage, not a profile of you, and it is off until you accept it.
- Cookie consent preference. Your accept/reject choice is stored in a cookie in your own browser so we do not ask again on every page.
- Email. If you email us, we hold your message and address in order to reply and to action corrections you report.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, passwords or payment details — there is nothing to buy on this site.
- No precise location data.
- No data about you sold, rented or shared with advertisers.
- No user reviews, ratings or profiles, because we do not operate a review system.
Cookies
We use two categories of cookie. Essential cookies store your consent choice and keep the site working; these do not require consent. Optional analytics cookies stay switched off until you accept them, and you can reject them without losing access to anything. Clearing your browser storage resets the choice.
Affiliate links
WattPicks earns commission from qualifying purchases made through links to manufacturer websites. When you follow one of those links, the merchant or their affiliate network may set a cookie in your browser so that a subsequent purchase can be attributed to this site. That cookie is set by the merchant, not by us, and is governed by their privacy policy.
We do not receive any personal information about you from an affiliate network, and we cannot see what you bought. We receive aggregate commission reports only.
Third parties
Product images are served from our own domain rather than hot-linked from vendors, which means visiting a page on this site does not notify the manufacturer. Outbound links to manufacturer sites are marked so that the destination knows the visit came from here.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email you sent us. Write to [email protected] and we will action a request.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the “last updated” date above changes with it. Continue to use the site after a change and the revised policy applies.
