What WattPicks is
WattPicks is an independent comparison site for portable power stations. We publish one normalised dataset of manufacturer specifications, the derived metrics that make those specifications comparable, and rankings built on them.
The problem we are trying to solve
Buying a power station means comparing thirty products across eight brands whose specs are written in incompatible ways. One vendor quotes capacity at 1,152 Wh and another at “1.15 kWh”; one quotes weight in kilograms and another in pounds with a tolerance; one publishes a solar input ceiling and another only mentions the panel it ships with. The numbers look comparable and are not.
So we did the tedious part. Every figure on this site is read from the manufacturer’s own listing, converted into a single schema, stored with the vendor’s exact wording, and re-checked programmatically. Then we compute the things no vendor prints: cost per watt-hour, watt-hours per pound, charge rate in watts, lifetime throughput.
What we are not
We are not a testing lab
We do not own these units, and we do not claim to have measured them. No page on this site says “we tested” or “our lab found”, because we did not and it did not. What we do — normalising published specifications and computing comparable ratios — is genuinely useful and genuinely different from hands-on testing. Pretending to do both would make the useful part worthless.
We also publish no user reviews, no star ratings and no testimonials. We have not collected any, and we will not generate them to fill a template. Our editorial analysis is written by us and labelled as ours.
What is in the dataset
Coverage is deliberately curated rather than exhaustive: we track the models buyers actually shortlist, verified properly, instead of every SKU listed for sale anywhere.

How we are funded
WattPicks is supported by affiliate commissions: if you follow a link to a manufacturer and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is disclosed on every page.
Affiliate revenue has never changed a number on this site, and structurally cannot: the dataset is generated from vendor pages by a script, and the rankings are computed from that dataset. There is no step where a commercial relationship can reach in and adjust a specification. Where we think a product is a poor choice for a given buyer, we say so while linking to it — that is the entire point of a comparison site.
Editorial rules we hold ourselves to
- No fabricated people, authors, experts or credentials.
- No invented reviews, ratings or testimonials of any kind.
- No claims of hands-on testing we have not performed.
- No estimated or borrowed specifications.
- No composite score presented as a measurement.
- Corrections are made in the dataset, not patched on a page, so a fix propagates everywhere.
